Set of two water-resistant linen-look polyester pillow covers with black geometric stripes

How to Choose Outdoor Pillow Covers

Updated

Outdoor pillow covers need more than an attractive pattern. The fabric, finish, zipper construction, climate and storage routine all affect how well a cover works on a patio or porch. HOSTECCO’s outdoor collection is best described as water-resistant rather than fully waterproof.

Water-resistant is the accurate term

The treated fabric surface is designed to resist light moisture and occasional splashes. However, water can enter through the zipper, seams or prolonged exposure. These covers are not sealed outdoor equipment. Use them in covered outdoor spaces and bring them indoors during heavy rain, storms or extended periods of wet weather.

Choose between lightweight and heavyweight fabric

  • Lightweight water-resistant linen-look polyester: lighter in hand and commonly used for coordinated multi-piece printed sets.
  • Heavyweight water-resistant linen-look polyester: thicker and softer in hand, often selected when a more substantial feel is preferred.

Both are polyester with a linen-look texture. The terms describe weight and feel, not natural linen fiber. Check each product’s material and construction details because package quantity alone does not identify every fabric.

Match the cover to the location

A roofed porch, covered balcony or screened patio provides more protection than an open deck. Consider how much direct rain, strong sun, dust and wind the area receives. We do not make a universal UV-resistant or fade-proof claim; store covers away from prolonged harsh exposure when not in use.

Check the insert and size

Outdoor pillow inserts are not included unless the listing states otherwise. Measure the insert from seam to seam and select the closest listed cover size. Avoid forcing a firm insert into a smaller cover, which can strain the zipper.

Style an outdoor seating area

  • Repeat one color from the furniture, rug or planters.
  • Mix one larger botanical or coastal print with a smaller geometric pattern.
  • Use solids or quieter textures to prevent a coordinated set from looking too busy.
  • Choose seasonal accents that can also work indoors when the weather changes.

Care and storage

For small surface marks, gentle spot wiping is often the first step. Follow the exact care information on the product page and avoid harsh cleaners. Let the cover dry fully before storage. During prolonged rain, winter weather or long periods without use, remove the covers and store them in a dry, ventilated place.

Questions to ask before buying

  • Is the seating area covered or fully exposed?
  • Do you prefer a lightweight or more substantial fabric?
  • What size are the existing inserts?
  • How many covers are included in the selected package?
  • Can you bring the covers inside during severe weather?

Browse outdoor water-resistant pillow covers and verify material, size, quantity and care on the individual product page.
